Mr. Tom Howard Frey, age 89, died Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at West Tennessee Healthcare Volunteer Hospital in Martin.
A preacher’s son, born in Clinton, Kentucky on December 24, 1930, Tom shared his joint birthday and Christmas gifts with his twin brother, Joe. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served as a photographer on bases in the United Kingdom and Germany. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Chattanooga. While attending Tennessee Temple University, he met and married Thelda Dietzen on December 23, 1955, sharing his joint anniversary, birthday, and Christmas presents with her. They were married for over 57 years, until her passing in 2013. They moved to Martin in 1962 and opened Frey’s Studio. Even now, people have fond memories of the photographs he took of their weddings, graduations, and babies. To be remembered as part of such joyous times in people’s lives brought him great happiness.
Tom and Thelda had two children, Cindy and Tommy. They were blessed as well with two grandchildren, Christy and Dustin, and one great-grandson, Alexander. Thelda, Tommy, and Christy met him at Heaven’s gate.
Mr. Frey was a member of First Baptist Church in Martin and he was a veteran; U.S. Air Force.
He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Burrows of Dallas Texas, one brother, Frank Frey of Nashville. His parents preceded him in death, Charles Ottis Fry and Jeffy Croom Fry. Two other brothers preceded him in death, Charles Frey and Fred Frey.
Funeral service will be Friday, June 12, 2020, 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Sams officiating. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Friday beginning at 12:00 Noon until service time at 2:00 P.M. at the church.
