T Joe Walker

Mr. T Joe Walker, age 99, of Martin died Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Weakley County Nursing and Rehab Center in Dresden, Tennessee.

Funeral service will be Saturday, October 14, 2023, 1:00 P.M. at the Martin Church of Christ with Bro. Ricky Phillips officiating.  Burial will follow with Military Honors in Hatler's Chapel  Cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday at the church beginning at 11:00 A.M. until funeral time.   

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Walker; his parents, Neil Walker and Lillian Gatewood Walker; brothers, Bert, Bill, Harvey, Harold, Raphael, Eulane, Hilman and Bob Walker; sister, Josephine Brundige; grandsons, Joey Guest and Brad Thompson; great-grandson, Jonathan Parker Thompson; his son-in-law, Mike Thompson.

He retired after a total of 52 years as supervisor of the physical plant at The University of Tennessee at Martin.  He also work with UTM Housing during those years.  He was a member of the Martin Church of Christ where he was a Past Elder.  Over the years he served as a minister to Gleason Church of Christ, Lebanon Church of Christ and Sidonia Church of Christ.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #55 and Post #69.  Mr. Walker was an honorary member of Rolling Thunder TN 6.  He was a veteran serving the 163rd Combat Engineer in the United States Army, WWII.

He is survived by his two daughters, Shelia Thompson and Sylvia (Jamie) Kemp; two sisters, Deana (Fred) House of Martin and Robbie Martin of Murray, KY;  five grandchildren, Randy (JoJo) Kemp, Candie (Rick) McGinnis, Debra Cash, Michael (Michelle) Thompson and Christel Laney; 13 great-grandchildren and 10 great great-grandchildren.
