Before my ending there was a beginning. I was blessed to be born on November 18, 1930 to Robert Ed Hogard and Henrietta Cavitt Hogard. I graduated from Weakley County Training School.
I was part of the second class of nursing students at Volunteer General Hospital in Martin. I worked as a nurse at Volunteer General Hospital and Cane Creek. I retired after 21 years of service as an ombudsman with Northwest Tennessee Development District.
I gave my life to the Lord at the age of 22 and was filled with the Holy Ghost. I was one of the original Martinaires. I was so grateful to serve the Lord in song with these talented and spirit filled women.
I have great love for my daughter, Stephanie Lenoir Stone, my son-in-law Maurice Stone (who is like a son), my grandson, Stephen, Tiffany, Maury and Anna. I have so much love for my family: Linda Hogard, best sister-in-law, Antonio Hogard (Aunt Jean loves you), and those I call my adopted sisters, Gwen Smith, Jean Haley(my standby), Marchell Gardner and Lula Evans (you know what I mean).
I am survived by my daughter, Stephanie Stone (Maurice), grandson Stephen Stone (Willa) of Houston, TX. Granddaughters Anna Carter, Tiffany Stone and Maury Bryant. Adopted daughters Dorethea Nunley Brooks, Marilyn Evans, Wanda Neal and Tammy Owens. Great love for all my nephew, nieces, great grandchildren, family, church members and most of all God.
I am at rest. Do not cry.
It will get easier as time goes by.
