Mr. Richard C. Shadden, Sr., age 77, of Martin went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
Funeral service will be Saturday, July 10, 2021, 11:30 A.M. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Roger S. Oldham and Dr. Rich Shadden, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday at First Baptist Church beginning at 9:30 A.M. until funeral time.
Pallbearers are Jeff Shadden, Dan Chappell, Lee Upchurch, Colin Shadden, Seth, Noah and Ethan Upchurch, Luke, Isaac and Silas Shadden. Honorary Pallbearers are the Brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho.
Mr. Shadden is survived by his wife, Jeri Orris Shadden of Martin, his children, JoLynn (Dan) Chappell of Paris, TN, Mary Ann (Lee) Upchurch of Collierville, TN; Dr. Rich (Kristy) Shadden, Jr. of Memphis and Jeff Shadden of Paris; nine grandchildren, Seth, Noah and Ethan Upchurch, Alex Shadden, Luke, Eliza, Isaac, Silas Shadden and Dustin Shadden; one brother, Jerry (Kathy) Shadden of Englewood, Tennessee.
Richard graduated with a Bachelor's of Science and Master's Degree of Agricultural Engineering from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he served as President of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He retired after 43 years as a Professor of Agriculture, Geoscience and Natural Resources from The University of Tennessee at Martin. He was also an advisor to the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at UT Martin. He served 28 years in the Tennessee Army National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of First Baptist Church Martin for 44 years where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher for most of those years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Carl Shadden and Mary Helen Frase Shadden; one brother, Dwayne Shadden.
