Raphael Walker

June 21, 1925 — April 8, 2021

Mr. Raphael Walker, age 95, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021, at his home in Martin, Tennessee.

Funeral service will be Thursday, April 15, 2021, 12:00 Noon at the Martin Church of Christ with Bro. Ricky Phillips and Bro. Danny Cash officiating.  Burial will follow in Hatler's Chapel Cemetery near Martin.  Visitation will be Thursday at the church beginning at 11:00 A.M. until funeral time at 12 noon.

Pallbearers are Bob Moultrie, Charles Latta, Don Wright, Paul Nielsen, Lee Taylor Walker and Matthew Walker.  Honorary Pallbearers are Gale McClain, Ron Powers, Doug Monroe, David Spencer, Bob Hathcock and Johnny Vincent.

Raphael was born in Weakley County on June 21, 1925 to the late Neil Walker and Lillian Gatewood.  He was married for 68 years to Mildred Essary.  They have one son, Dr. Danny Walker (Susan Beeler) of Martin, TN; two grandsons, Matthew (Valerie) of Destin, FL, and Lee Taylor (Erin) of Ft. Worth, TX; four great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Violette, Lewis and Samuel.

Raphael worked for the 7-Up Bottling Company from 1946-56; and for Universal Flavors from 1956-91 where he earned the "Salesman of the Year" award three times.  Raphael was an Alderman for the City of Martin from 1974-76 and an active member of the Martin Church of Christ for over 40 years.  His military service included: The Korean War (1948-49) and the National Guard (1950-53).

In addition to his parents, Raphael was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Brundige, and four brothers, Harvey who died at Pearl Harbor in WWII, Bert Walker, Harold Walker, Bill Walker and Eulane Walker.  He is survived by three brothers, Hilman Walker of Memphis, TN, Joe Walker of Martin, TN, Bob Walker of Millbury, Ohio; and two sisters, Deana Perry House of Martin and Robbie Martin of Murray, Kentucky.
