Mr. Odis Carmichael, age 91, died Wednesday, 06/12/2013, at his residence in Martin.
Funeral service will be Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Bible Union Baptist Church; 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, June 14, 2013, at Murphy Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., or after 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at Bible Union Baptist Church.
Mr. Carmichael was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Smith Carmichael; his parents, Major Carmichael and Marjorie Crittendon Carmichael; one brother, Richard Carmichael. He is survived by two sons, Jimmy Carmichael and Mark Carmichael; one daughter, Barbara (Bennie) Castleman all of Martin; one sister, Edna (Hilman) Walker of Memphis. He is survived by five grandchildren, Claire Oliver, Kelly Smith, Jamie Harris, Ben Carmichael and Bryan Castleman; five grandchildren, London Carmichael, Maggie Oliver, Mollie Oliver, Mary Kate Smith and Leah Grace Smith.
Mr. Carmichael was a retired farmer and former Director of Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (A.S.C.S.). He was a graduate Union City High School and a former Magistrate on Weakley County Court. He was a WW II bomber pilot; U.S. Army Air Corps and a member of Bible Union Baptist Church. Mr. Carmichael was very active in the Republican Party.
