Nelle Sparks

Mrs. Nelle Luckey Sparks, age 101, died Sunday, August 28, 2022, at her residence in Martin.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the Martin Cumberland Presbyterian Church 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Mike Lavender and Rev. Randy Cooper officiating.  Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery near McKenzie.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at Murphy Funeral Home, or after 9:00 A.M. on Thursday at the church until funeral time.

Pallbearers are Gene Luckey, Steve Luckey, Jack Luckey, Pat Luckey, Tom Luckey, Ken Luckey, Jimmy Cooper, Glynn Mebane, Jason Luckey, and Robert Bigham.

Mrs. Sparks was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. Sparks; her parents, Clarence E. Luckey and Nina Keenan Luckey; sister, Nina Jane Cooper; three brothers, Eugene Luckey, Rege Luckey and J.H. Luckey.

Mrs. Sparks taught 8th grade Math for 32 years and most all those years at Martin Junior High.  She was a member of the Martin Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  She was a graduate of Union University and George Peabody College for Teachers where she met her husband and married him on August 24, 1947.  Mrs. Sparks was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority for 83 years and a member of the Fortnightly Club in Martin.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Jack) Allen of Martin; her son, Art (Tammy) Sparks of Union City; two granddaughters, Jeni Beth (Josh) Vincent and Emily Anne Sparks; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Allie Vincent; her sister-in-law, Jane Luckey and numerous nieces and nephews.

In Lieu of flowers memorials requested to the UTM Arthur and Nelle L. Sparks Math Scholarship, the Martin Cumberland Presbyterian Church, or to the charity of choice.
