Mr. Larry Baker

March 10, 1939 — April 23, 2018

Larry Baker, a lifelong resident of Martin, Tennessee was born March 10, 1939 and left this life on April 23, 2018 after a brief illness.  He had just celebrated his 79th birthday with family.  He leaves his cherished lifelong companion, Pansy Nanney Baker, his daughter Cheree (and Carl) Hanson, son William "Cary" (and Kim) Baker, three Baker grandsons, Zachary, Dustin and Maverick, and a sister Nola Winstead.  Larry led a large life, beginning as a bricklayer, serving in the National Guard, and finally turning his attention to farming, which was in his blood like his kin to the very end.  Nothing smelled better to him than freshly turned soil in the field and incoming rain on freshly planted crops.  He was invigorated by the uncertainty of the cycles of the seasons, market fluctuations, and daily weather reports beyond his control.  He also worked collaboratively with his friend James Tuck in developing Landrum Woods on Hyndsver road.  Between times of work he loved riding motorcycles (dirt bikes and road trips); boating and fishing at the cottage at the lake; and enjoying the company of friends and family throughout his life (though later he exchanged motorcycles for a golf cart).  His legacy lives on thru his family after his calling home to the Lord.  While he will be sorely missed and always remembered, we celebrate the amazing life that was Larry Baker, a powerhouse that could outwalk and outwork the best of us and far exceeded a life above his medical conditions, always on his terms.  (By Family)

Celebration of Life funeral service will be Thursday, April 26, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at Murphy Funeral Home with Dr. Bobby Hathcock officiating.  Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
