Martha Hurt Smith

Mrs. Martha Hurt Smith, age 91, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Martin Health Care.

Mrs. Smith was born in Trezevant, TN and moved to Martin, TN to attend the University of Tennessee Junior College and made Martin her permanent home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith retired from the Tennessee Department of Human Services after 42 years, the last 27 of which she served as the county manager.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husbands, Jake Hurt and Wayne Smith; her parents William and Lessie Martin; and her brothers, James Martin, Elbert Martin, Elmer Martin, Billy Martin, and Carlton Martin.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home. Burial to follow at East Side cemetery. Friends may assemble at the funeral home at 12:45.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Martin Health Care for the excellent care and acts of love and kindness extended to Mrs. Smith during her time with them.
