Linda Kay McWherter Gurley, age 66, of Martin died Monday, August 27, 2012, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, TN

Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Bible Union Missionary Baptist Church in Martin at 2:00 P.M. Following the service there will be a potluck dinner. Bible Union is located at 2852 Bible Union Road in Martin.

Linda was born in Martin, TN on January 18, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Chester and Zela McWherter and was the ninth of ten children. She recently retired from Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin after 35 years of service. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and great-aunt to her family. She enjoyed her crossword puzzles and made the best pecan pies ever. She adored and loved to spend time with her only grandchild, the love of her life, Phoebe. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by siblings Paula McWherter, Rachel Grinder, Ann King, Betty Cox and June Scott and also her former husband Jimmy Neal Gurley. She is survived by her son Steven Gurley (Amanda) and their daughter Phoebe and remaining siblings Sheila McWherter, Donny McWherter, Charles McWherter and Yvonne Halcome.
