Leonard M. Merritt

Mr. Leonard Maxel Merritt, age 90, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral service will be Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church; 12 NOON. Burial to follow in Cates Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 6, 2012, at Murphy Funeral Home; 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., or after 10:00 A.M. Saturday morning at the church.

Mr. Merritt was preceded in death by his wife, Gaynell Peery Merritt. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Jean Sheridon Merritt of Martin; his sons, Duane (Linda) Merritt and Gerald (Glenda) Merritt, his daughter, Gwen Hodges all of Martin; his grandchildren, Billy Hodges, Mike Merritt, Jason Merritt, Chris Merritt and Kyle Merritt; seven great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Mr. Merritt was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Merritt and Hattie Starkey Merritt; his brother, Joe Merritt; his sisters, Mable Penick, Bertha Merritt, Helen Merritt, Charlene Merritt and Mary Emma McDavid.

Before retirement he owned and operated Merritt Motors with his brother, Joe Merritt. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Martin.
