Johnella Childress

Mrs. Johnella Childress, age 104, passed from this life Friday, January 7, 2022, at Van Ayer Nursing and Rehab in Martin, Tennessee.

Funeral service will be Monday, January 17, 2022, 12:00 Noon at First Baptist Church in Martin with Dr. Mike Sams officiating.  Burial will follow in New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Mason Hall, Tennessee.  Visitation will be Monday beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the church until funeral time at 12:00 Noon. 

Pallbearers are Harry Caudle, Matt Crick, Robert Conley, Jr., Will Minton, Bill Minton, Jamie Jetton, Kodi Milner and Sullivan Minton.  Honorary Pallbearers are past and present brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho.

Mrs. Childress is survived by her daughter, Jerrie Conley of Martin; her grandchildren, Robin Baker of Martin, Carol Perry of Lebanon, TN and Robert Conley, Jr. of Martin; three great-grandchildren, Allie Baker (Matt) Crick of Hernando, MS,  Mallori Conley of Spring Hill, TN and Kodi Milner of Memphis; one great great-grandson, Hudson Wade Crick.

She was a secretary for several years at Trimble Manufacturing and Sylvania in Dyersburg. One of her greatest joys was being "Mom Childress" for the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at UT Martin where she resided in the fraternity house and was house mother to many young men for 13 plus years. She was a graduate of Trimble High School and attended School of Business in Memphis.  She was a very faithful member of First Baptist Church in Martin.

Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by her husband, E.E. Childress; her parents, John Jetton and Allie Cherry Jetton; two brothers and four sisters.
