John Vincent

John Vincent of Martin, Tenn. passed away on November 26, 2013. Born on December 14, 1925, he was the youngest son of Jack and Vera Jeans Vincent and was preceded in death by his brothers, Milburn Vincent and William Vincent. Over the years Mr. Vincent worked with Lions Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the Heart Fund. He served on the Board of Directors for Hinton Rural Life Center in North Carolina for six years. He was active with the West Tennessee Regional Interfaith Association and the First United Methodist Church in Martin. He was a co-founder of the We Care Ministry. In 1943, he became a Mason and served that organization locally as well as on the state level as Worshipful Grand Master. He was, also, a 65 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Vincent loved his community and the people of Martin, and they responded with great kindness to him.

After many years of farming, livestock trading, and acting as a broker for produce shipped into Martin, Mr. Vincent became a John Deere dealer on December 1, 1962. His three dealerships were located in Martin, Paris and Union City. He served as President of the West Tennessee and West Kentucky John Deere Dealers Association and President of the Weakley County Farm Bureau. During the 1970's, his dealership was ranked in the top ten dealerships in the country. During the 1960's, he was elected a legislator in the 84th General Assembly of the State of Tennessee. Mr. Vincent believed in hard work, and he looked forward to the give and take of the business world.

In addition to his community work, he and his wife of 67 years, Jean Oliver Vincent, enjoyed travel. They had visited all 50 states and 13 foreign countries.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his four children, Alona Davis, Johnny Vincent, Charlotte Shelby and Janie McDermott. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Friday, November 29, 2013, at Murphy Funeral Home; 2:30 P.M. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. on Friday until funeral time at 2:30 P.M.
