Mr. John Marshall Martin, Jr., age 94, of Alexandria, VA died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at University Hospital in Augusta, GA.
Memorial graveside service will be Saturday, May 26, 2012, at East Side Cemetery; 10:30 A.M. Friends may assemble at 10:15 A.M.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Dorothy Shands Martin of Aiken, South Carolina; his son, Mr. J. Marshall Martin, III of Atlanta, GA; his daughter, Dr. Mary Luella Thompson of Augusta, GA; two grandchildren, Martin and William Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Marshall Martin, Sr. and Luella Hefley Martin; brother, William Martin; sister, Ann Martin Harpole.
Mr. Martin was an attorney. He was Chief Counsel to the House Ways and Means Committee of the United States House of Representatives. He attended University of Tennessee Junior College and graduated from The University of Tennessee Knoxville. After returning from WW II he returned to UTK and received his law degree. He studied doctrial work at John-Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. He was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Alexandria, VA and a U.S. Navy veteran.
