Jimmy was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, to James and Louise Jackson. He leaves behind his loving family: his wife of 59 years, Doris Abernathy Jackson, his brother, Bill Jackson of Martin, his son, Todd Jackson of Nashville, his daughter, Trina (Randy) Resser of Paducah, Ky, grandchildren Jackson (Shannon), Luke (Erin Stafford), and Carley. His first great-grandson is due in January 2025.
He was a 1959 graduate of Martin High School, a 1963 graduate of University of Tennessee at Martin, and a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1963-1965. A car enthusiast, Jimmy joined the family business Akin Jackson Motor Company which he owned and operated for many years. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and a teacher of the Carl Seale Sunday School class.
Jimmy was an avid golfer and will be missed by his golf buddies. He and Doris enjoyed traveling and spent many winters on South Padre Island, Texas. They shared a love of ballroom dancing and bridge club.
To know Jimmy was to love him. He had a quick wit, an easy-going manner, and loved a good joke. You could find him around town on his E-bike heading to his men's coffee group. He was known as the family chaplain and was always ready when called on for a prayer or devotional. Jimmy was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday at the First United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM with visitation starting at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Martin First United Methodist Church.
