Mr. James J. (Jimmy) Burton, Jr., age 83, died Thursday at Van Ayer Manor Nursing Home in Martin.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 1, 2010, at Murphy Funeral Home; 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, January 31, 2010, at the funeral home; 3:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M.
Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Tinker Burton. He is survived by sons, Jeff Burton of Martin, Tony Burton of Old Hickory, TN, Dereak Burton of McKenzie, TN; daughter, Kara Havrila of Martin; brother, Tommy Burton of Austin, TX; sister, Jo Ann Pate of Memphis; three grandchildren, Robert Macy, Katie Havrila and Sadie Havrila. He was preceded in death by parents, James J. Burton, Sr. and Helen Douglas Burton; one brother, Bobby Burton.
Mr. Burton retired from the Maintenance Department at the University of Tennessee Martin. He was a U.S. Navy WW II veteran and a member of First Baptist Church in Martin.
