Mr. J. Charles Scates, age 85, of Martin died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Brentwood, TN.
Graveside service will be Thursday, March 3, 2011, at East Side Cemetery in Martin; 1:00 P.M. Friends may assemble at the cemetery at 12:45 P.M. No visitation will be held at Murphy Funeral Home.
Mr. Scates is survived by his wife, Faye Gardner Scates of Martin, his sons, Paul Scates of Nashville and John Scates of San Francisco, California; his daughter, Stephanie (Charles) Hodges of Nashville; two grandchildren, Rhiannon Langford of Dallas, TX and Nathan Hodges of Nashville.
Mr. Scates was preceded in death by his parents, Paul H. Scates and Clair Wharton Scates; two brothers, Jack Scates and Dan Scates.
Mr. Scates formerly owned Ace Hardware Store in Martin for 24 years. He was U.S. Army WW II veteran, a 1944 graduate of Martin High School and a member of the Martin Church of Christ.
