Mr. Gerald Wayne Morgan passed away on December 12, 2023, at the age of 82, at his home in Martin, TN surrounded by his wife and children. He battled various health issues over the last six years and showed his strength and determination as he fought valiantly to stay with those he loved as long as possible.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 12/16/2023, at 11:00 AM at Murphy Funeral Home, with Rev. Sky McCracken officiating, with burial to follow at Slaty Creek Cemetery, Beaver Dam, KY.
Visitation will be after 10:00 AM until service time.
Mr. Morgan was a member of Central Baptist Church; he was a retired electrical engineer for T V A.
Gerald met his wife of 60 years, Peggy, while they were both students at Murray State University. They began their life together in Madisonville, KY, where he began working for his father-in-law who owned a coal mine. He and his bride moved to Chattanooga after accepting a job with TVA, a career which led him to Martin, where he continued to work for 31 years. Hobbies and passions he loved included coaching, officiating high school basketball, wallpapering, tinkering with small engines and antiquing. While he enjoyed spending time on all these things, the time he spent with his family was valued most of all. He was an incredibly devoted and loving husband and father who will be missed more than words can express.
Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Peggy Coy Morgan, Martin, TN; a son, Gregory W. (Kimberly) Morgan, Germantown, TN; two daughters, Amanda (Matt) Phillips, Brentwood, TN, and Celia (Bob) Dowty, Collierville, TN; ten grandchildren, Katie (David) Caudle, Kelsey Morgan, Layton Pegg, Mabry Pegg, Ross (Taylor) Phillips, Rebekah Phillips, Emma Phillips, Emily Dowty, Sarabeth Dowty, and Molly Dowty; one great grandson, Noah Caudle; one sister, Cathy (Jack) Eli, Lindale, TX; three brothers, Tommy Morgan, Bowling Green, KY, Phillip (Carole) Morgan, Louisville, KY, and Mike (Sarah) Morgan, HerrIn, IL; and a brother-in-law, Paul (Melissa) Coy, Henderson, KY.
Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Wayne and Helen Jones Morgan.
