Dr. Brent Hamner, age 85, formerly of Martin died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Funeral service will be Saturday, July 26, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Martin at 3:00 P.M. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 25, 2014, at Murphy Funeral Home beginning at 4:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M., or after 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at First Baptist Church.
Dr. Hamner is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Haymon Hamner of Nashville; his sons, Jeff (Lynne) Hamner of Orlando, Florida and Warren (Shelley) Hamner of Cartersville, Georgia; brothers, Roger Hamner of Alabama and Larry Hamner of Tennessee; sisters, Billie Malone, Marie Campbell, Janet Lansford all of Alabama and Vera Nell Hamner of Georgia; three grandchildren, Brent McDoniel, Andrew Hamner and Grace Hamner. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jan Hamner Barrington; parents, Lee Hamner and Artie Rushing Hamner; brothers, Ned Hamner and George Hamner, sister, Martha Hamner.
Dr. Hamner was Professor Emeritus at The University of Tennessee at Martin. He received his undergraduate degree and his Doctorate of Education from The University of Alabama. He received his Master's Degree from The University of Mississippi. He was a WWII Army veteran and a member of First Baptist Church in Martin.
