Dorothy "Dottie" Nelle Taylor Covington, age 95, died Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Van Ayer Nursing Home in Martin, Tennessee.
She was born on December 23, 1926, to John Vance and Louise Akins Taylor of Greenfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Paul Covington, brother Travis Taylor, and sisters Mary Mikel, Martha Powell, and Louise Montez Smith.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters Paula (Bill) Hawkins of Camden and Cindy (Larry) Leeper of Nunnelly. Dottie also leaves behind her four grandchildren: Anita (Michael) Sloan of Franklin, William (Alice) Hawkins of Murfreesboro, Brad (Heather) Leeper of Pinewood, and Lee Ann (Claude) Callicott of Only.
After graduating from UTM, she became a librarian with the Reelfoot Regional Library. Our Mother and Granny showed her family the importance of doing things for others. She always put others ahead of herself and enjoyed making chocolate pies and angel food cakes for others, especially her family.
Dottie was a member of First Baptist Church of Martin. She was a Christian role model for her family and for all those whose lives she touched, and her life demonstrated her walk with Christ.
Services will be held at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin on Saturday, October 29, 2022 with visitation beginning at 11:00 until funeral services at 1:00 followed by burial at Eastside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Hawkins, Larry Leeper, Brad Leeper, William Paul Hawkins, Michael Sloan, and Claude Callicott. Junior pallbearers will be Ben Hawkins and Will Sloan.
Memorials may be made to We Care Ministries of Martin and to the Gideons International.
