Doris Lee

Doris Ann Lee, 86, passed away at Cornerstone Nursing Home in Johnson City, Tennessee on November 3.  Graveside service and burial will be held at East Side Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 9^th with Rev. Larry Washburn officiating. 

Doris was born in Weakley County, TN on January 13, 1934.  She taught First Grade at Martin Primary School for 41 years serving as Assistant Principal for much of that time.  Her students helped shape her life, and she reflected on her time as a teacher fondly, humorously and often after retiring from the classroom in 2000. After retiring as a teacher, Doris supervised student teachers for the College of Education at the University of Tennessee Martin for eight years until she moved to East Tennessee to be closer to her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents Will and Lula Lee, her sister Kathryn Ryan, and four young brothers, all from the Hyndsver Community.  Doris leaves behind one niece, Marcella Ryan Payne (James Franklin) of Johnson City, TN, a great niece Polly Walker (Don) of Maryville, TN, a great nephew Chris Payne (Shana) and her beloved great great niece and nephews Maddie, Ben and Parker Payne of Johnson City, TN.

Family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church in Martin or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. The family also welcomes those who knew Doris to sign the online guestbook at https://www.murphyfuneralhome.net/obits.
