David Vowell

July 24, 1950 — January 30, 2021

All are invited to a Celebration of David Vowell's life on Saturday, May 15, 2021, 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Martin Farmers Market located at 101 Main Street.  There will also be a drive thru side available for those who prefer to not be in a crowd.  He was a beloved friend to many and the family would love to see you, visit and share stories of David.

Mr. Vowell is survived by his wife, Carla Cheatham Vowell; his mother, Mary Persley Vowell; brother, Richard (Kathy) Vowell all of Martin; brother, Donald (Mary Alice) Vowell of Knoxville; sister, Carolyn (Barry) Williams of Nashville; five nieces, five nephews and two Godsons.

David co-owned and operated Vowell & Sons Lumber Company before retirement.  He was a 1968 graduate of Martin High School and a graduate of The University of Tennessee at Martin.  He was a member of the Martin Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  David competed on the UTM Rodeo Team and was a member of the first team east of the Mississippi that went to the National Finals.  He was a championship bull rider and was inducted to the UTM Rodeo Hall of Fame.  David remained an avid supporter of UTM Rodeo.   He served in the Tennessee Air National Guard.  He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at UT Martin.  David was a loyal member of the Martin Tree Board where he served as treasurer.  He was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors.  David was a mentor and role model to countless. 

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Texanna Vowell; his father, Morris Addington Vowell.

Memorial requested to the UTM Rodeo Team or the Martin Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
