Col. Bob Smith

Col. Robert Wallace (Bob) Smith, age 88, of Martin died Tuesday, 07/23/2013, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Funeral service will be Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church in Martin at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Parham Cemetery in Martin. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday at the church.

Col. Smith is survived by his wife, Gwen Willoughby Smith of Martin; son, Steve (Susan) Smith of California; daughters, Jane Ellen Rogers, Cindy Smith, Wallace Higgs all of Las Vega, NV and Shirley Towels of South Bend, IN; stepsons, Wardell (Sharon) Owens, Jr., James Robert Owens, Stevie (Lessie) Owens all of Martin; step-daughters, Marilyn J. (Larry) Evans, Tammy Owens both of Martin and Wanda (Ernest) Neal of Louisville, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Smith and Susie Bell Smith; two sisters, Wilsie B. Fulton and Amanda Love.

Col. Bob retired from UTM after 21 years of employment. He was a veteran, U.S. Navy WW II and was a member of Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church in Martin.
