Betty Hamner

Mrs. Betty Jo (Haymon) Hamner, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.  Mrs. Hamner lived in a Nashville assisted living community, and previously was a long-time resident of Martin, Tennessee.  Mrs. Hamner was born in Crane Hill, Alabama on March 27, 1932.  She graduated from Meek High School in Alabama, and embarked on a career in nursing after receiving her RN from Carraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham.

Betty married Brent Hamner in December 1953, and they enjoyed more than 60 years of marriage before Brent passed away in 2014.  Once Betty 'retired' from professional nursing after Brent had received his doctorate, Betty focused her energies on raising her children and continuing a life-long commitment to her church.  Betty enjoyed several hobbies, most especially reading and quilting.

Betty is preceded in death by husband, Brent, daughter, Jan Maria, parents, Ira and Lola Haymon, and siblings, Irene Haymon, Bobby Haymon and Roy Haymon.  She is survived by sons, Jeff (Lynne) and Warren (Shelley), grandchildren, Brent, Andrew and Grace, brother, Ray Haymon, and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Funeral service will be Saturday, November 17, 2018, 1:00 P.M. at Murphy Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Washburn officiating.  Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. Saturday until funeral time at 1:00.
